In it to Wing It!

Most people would say that winged eyeliner is one of the hardest tasks in makeup. It is highly recommended that you use liquid liner over gel since it is the easiest to use and less easy to smudge.
Liner should start thin in the inner corner and get thicker toward the outer corner. It is okay if you mess up, simply dip a q-tip or cotton swab in makeup remover and wipe it off. Just keep on trying!

Here is a quick tutorial for applying wing eyeliner:

Natural Makeup Application

Previously, we looked at the fundamentals of makeup. Today, we will tie in all that the tips and tricks taught so far into one look. The look we are going for is natural and glowy with a hint of colour on the lips. This look accentuates the model's face shape. Isn't she beautiful?!!!

Falsie... Oh How We Love Them!

False lashes or as the makeup world calls it falsies is a great way to accentuate the eyes and bring out the entire makeup look. I decided to share easy steps to applying lashes and a mini review of my favourite brands.

Easy steps to applying false lashes:

1. Gently remove lashes from tray
2. Soften lash band to increase flexibility
3. Fit or measure lash without glue to eyelash line  and trim lash band if needed
4. Apply glue to lash band and wait 10-20 seconds before applying
5. Place lash on top of your natural lash line softly pressing band to secure
6. Use small lash curler, tweezers or fingers to blend lashes together
7. Add some mascara and/or eyeliner to hide any lash band  or you can add mascara to your natural lashes before applying falsie... its a personal preference

Here are two of my favourites and a mini review:

1. Ardell Demi Wispies Fake Eyelashes is lightweight with an invisble band that is a favourite among makeup artists that accentuatess the eyes for an outstanding natural look!

Bold Lips: Do You Dare?

Makeup is about taking risks. Bold lips are taking over the makeup world, though the classic red lips is not a new trend this makeup statement is making its way back with different variants. From the classic red lips, ombre or unicorn look,  bold makeup is about self expression and creativity. The red lips exhibits romance and seduction and my favourite is MAC Ruby Woo. From matte natural tones to purple, the ombre and unicorn trend is taking the makeup world by storm... Stay creative and find which bold statement suits you! Have fun

Eye Makeup for Beginners

Our eyes are a reflection of our heart. Often many people do not know the right way to apply eyeshadows when they start off so I decided to post about the right way to applying eye makeup. Keep it simple if you are a beginner..  Down below is a video tutorial that will make it easy for you to follow with all the tips and tricks. If you do not get it right the first time, keep practicing and do not give up... Enjoy!

Highlighting and Contouring

Highlighting and contouring have been the bigggest rave for beauty fanatics. Today, you will learn how to highlight and contour to achieve a flawless look.

Highlighting brings forward and accentuates the face and normally should be 1-2 shades lighter. Apply to the bridge of your nose, under your eyes and  middle of forehead using a concealer or highlighter with a blending brush or sponge.

Contouring defines and reshape your face and normally should be 1-2 shades darker. Apply to the hollows of the cheeks, jawline, sides of the nose and forehead using a blending brush or sponge with a foundation , cream based or powder product.

Do not forget to blend blend blend! Blend upwards with a blending sponge, brush or even your hands. Set or baked with a setting or translucent powder. My favourite setting powder is Sacha Buttercup.

Here is a quick and easy tutorial:

The Benefits of Primer

A flawless face is the basis of every makeup look.  Most will say foundation and concealer can achieve this but the secret is primer! Primer are designed to minimise pores, smoothing fine lines and help with uneven skintone. Generally primers should be applied after your moisturiser since it creates a base for your foundation, eyeshadow or lips.

My top budget friendly picks are:

Maybelline Face Studio Master Prime
Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer
E.l.f. Poreless Face Primer
E.l.f. Mineral Eyeshadow Primer
Makeup Forever Pro HD Primer

Brushes 101

Brushes are one of my favourite obsessions. The excitement of getting a new brush set inspires me to create new looks. The right set of brushes also helps to create the best application. From cheap to high end brands deciding on what to choose might be a challenge to many. From my experience you have to find what works best for you. I always recommend a mini brush set for beginners. Some of my favourite brands are Morphe brushes, MAC, Sigma Beauty, Real Techniques, ELF and BH Cosmetics. Listed below are the different type of brushes:

Colour Correcting 101

In my previous blog post I discussed tips on choosing a concealer. Today we will be exploring the world of colour correcting. Colour Correcting is a technique used to neutralise facial disclourations by applying contrasting makeup shades over them that cannot be easily corrected with the regular concealer application.

When using a color correcting concealer purple cancels yellow and is use to brighten dullness and combats sallow undertones.

Pink cancels brown. Brightens dark spots and dullness, cover age and sun spots in fair an medium skin tones.

Yellow cancels purple. Calms mild redness and cover veins.

Green cancels red. Covers sunburn, rosacea, intense sunburn and acne.

Red cancels green. Cover stubborn dark circles, hallow under eyes and tattoos on deep skin tones.

Orange cancels blue. Covers dark circles and bruised skin on medium to deep skin tones.

Peach cancels blue. Covers dark circles, bruised skin, hyper-pigmentation and brightens fair skin.

The video below gives a tutorial on colour correcting:

They are several options available but my favourite is NYX Colour Correcting Pallette because it is natural looking and compact with the needed colours all in one.

Tips for Choosing the Right Concealer

Choose your concealer based on what works for your skin type and concerns. If you have dry skin, do not go for a liquid concealer with a matte finish because the finish will emphasize dryness.

If you have oily skin with enlarged pores, do not go for a creamy or stick concealer as these textures tend to clog and magnify the appearance of pores, plus they tend to add an oily shine. We know this sounds basic but it is surprising how often the wrong concealer gets used.

For creating a more even finish over minor skin discolorations, a light to medium coverage concealer will do the trick.

For the under-eye area, be sure to select a shade of concealer that is no more than one or two shades lighter than your natural skin tone to avoid an obvious white circle around the eye area.

For your face, select a concealer that matches the color of your foundation exactly. Avoid concealer shades that are noticeably pink, rose, peach, white, yellow, or copper as they will show through your foundation, creating an unnatural appearance.

Here are some picks and review on some of my favourite concealers:
